Progress Update March-April 2025

Livelihood Project Update: New Beginnings on the Thikiliveddai Farm

We’re thrilled to share an encouraging update from our ongoing Livelihood Project. One of our valued employees has been allocated a 1-acre plot and has enthusiastically begun cultivating the land.

The initial focus is on green-gram, a strategic choice due to its short growth cycle, minimal maintenance requirements, and resilience against common diseases. This allows for a quicker return and builds a strong foundation for future endeavours. Following the green-gram harvest, there are also plans to introduce cowpea cultivation, further diversifying the farm’s output.

Currently, the land has been ploughed and the first signs of growth are visible. This initiative underscores our commitment to empowering our employees and fostering sustainable livelihoods within the community. We look forward to sharing further progress on this promising venture.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Empowering Batti Women’s Crafts through Generous Donation

We are delighted to share a heartwarming initiative from the Symbiosophy Education Foundation. In a recent act of support, the Foundation has generously donated a selection of beautifully crafted coconut-based items to the Batti Women’s Crafts shop in Batticaloa.

This donation serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it provides the dedicated crafts team with valuable inventory that they can sell, directly contributing to their income generation and financial sustainability. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, these exquisite coconut creations are intended to inspire and ignite the creative vision of the craftswomen. By showcasing the potential and versatility of coconut as a crafting material, the Foundation hopes to encourage the development of new and innovative craft items within the community.

This collaboration exemplifies the power of community support in fostering economic empowerment and nurturing local artistry. We commend the Symbiosophy Education Foundation for their thoughtful contribution and look forward to witnessing the exciting new creations that will undoubtedly emerge from the Batti Women’s Crafts team.
